The traditional Japanese futon is quite different from the modern-type futons that are being sold today. The Futon Frame
The futon frame is the base or foundation of the futon. It is usually made of wood or metal, or combinations of both. The frame could also come in a variety of styles and colors. The first futon frames were made of wood. To keep the aesthetic value of a wooden futon frame it must come from clear wood, which means it does not have knots or bark. The Futon Mattress
The futon mattress is the cushion that is used for both sitting and sleeping. Like futon frames, they also are made up of different types of materials. However, cotton mattresses are also more prone to sagging and needs to be aired regularly. * California king: 72 inches x 84 inches
The Futon Cover
The futon cover serves to protect the futon mattress and shield it from everyday wear and tear. Aside from this, it can also be changed to personalize the futon's appearance and to suit the room and coordinate with the surrounding environment. The flexibility of having options for covers add to the appeal of futons. With a multitude of different fabric types and designs to choose from, one can instantly alter the look of futons to whatever mood or occasion.
