The futon mattress is the most important part of the equation. Contrary to popular belief, thickness does not matter. It's the quality of whats inside that counts.
Not all futons are ceated equal. Our TDC (Tufted Designer Cover) cushion is constructed of the highest quality materials available today. The core of this cushion is a 255 coil, 13.5 gauge deluxe innerspring unit with built-in edge supports and a 9 gauge border wire to help retains it's shape at the edge and prevent sagging. The coil unit is then surrounded by a insulator pad which seals in the coils. The unit is then surrounded by 2 - one and a half inch 1.5 high density foam pieces then wrapped with layers of high quality cotton batting. Thats a futon built to last!
The Backbone of the Futon Sofa Sleeper - The Futon Frame
The futon frame is the backbone of the futon sleeper. Most futon manufactures are producing high quality frames that are built to last regardless of the hardwood thats used. The old claims that "Indonesian or Chinese wood-species are not strong enough to withstand the great stresses required of a convertible piece of furniture, or to hold the fasteners used to connect them." are just flat out false. In most cases it's the way the frame was manufactured not the wood that was used.
We have sold thousands of oak and imported hardwood futon frames over the years and have seen no difference in the failure rate on imported vs domestic wood futons. In fact, we have seen the quality of both elevated to the point where defects and breakage are almost non existant. All of our futon frames are made out of time-tested woods, including oak, which will last for years without breaking or coming apart.
